Dance Exercises For Seniors: Vitality At Any Age
Dancing is for everyone – absolutely everyone!  Not all fitness regimens are.  Some forms of exercise can be detrimental. Â
Runners suffer from shin splints, Plantar fasciitis, knee injuries and IT band issues.  Many golfers experience back pain, shoulder issues, rotator cuff and wrist injuries.  There is swimmer shoulder, tennis elbow and the list goes on.  Sports injuries are generally caused by overuse, essentially using exactly the same muscles in the same way over and over again. Â
These activities really too heavily on repetitive movements that can stress bones and joints.
Dance is different
When we use repetition on My Body By Dance we work a muscle with a dance movement and then we switch to a different repetitive movement. Throughout one dance workout, we use a variety of muscles and the movements are never exactly the same. That is the beauty of dance – your whole body is expressing your emotions to movement.Â
There are options, movement is versatile, and dynamic.  Everything has a substitution and is adaptable because all movements represent your personal expression.  Our instructors are here to guide you through the process, but your body is the leader.   Â
Make sure to move
The sports and physical activities of our youth are what get us moving and that is important. The CDC recommends that older adults “Move more and sit less”. Finding activities that motivate us as we age can be difficult which is why we have created the vitality section of our site. The aerobic and cardio fitness lessons in this section are designed to provide low-impact physical activity at any age.
